Roy Hoewischer collection, 1918-1962, Bulk 1918-1919.

This collection is arranged in two series. Series one includes a scrapbook of photographs, presumably taken by Roy W. Hoewischer during his time as a soldier in France and the United States during World War I. The photographs include images of biplanes, monoplanes, dirigibles, airplane hangars, balloons and salvage yards. Series two includes a letter of promotion and a listing of job duties for Roy Hoewischer. Folder 2 contains newspaper clippings related to World War I and the development of airplanes.

Roy William Hoewischer was born in Galconda, Illinois on November 21, 1891, the son of George and Rose Hoewischer. Before the outbreak of World War I, Hoewischer worked in a Dry Goods Store. He was sworn into the United States Army on December 13, 1917 in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Hoewischer trained throughout the Eastern United States, but spent most of military career serving in France, where he arrived July 18, 1918.
